MicrorNAs and their roles in wound repair and regeneration

*Corresponding author iNTroDuCTioN It was originally estimated that there were between 35,000 and 120,000 encoding genes within the DNA; however, studies revised this number down to 20,000–25,000 and it was suggested that a high level of control exists to regulate gene expression in this lower than expected number of genes1. Non-coding RNAs, in particular microRNAs (miRNAs), have been proposed as one mechanism for regulating gene expression1-3. Approximately 1000 miRNAs exist in human cells, which regulate around 30% of the genes2. MiRNAs are a novel class of endogenous, single-stranded RNAs, MicrorNAs and their roles in wound repair and regeneration

The Effects of Topical Sildenafil on Wound Healing in Rat
Nitric oxide (NO) is an important molecule synthesized during wound repair. Studies have reported the use of NO donors on cutaneous wound repair, but their effects in different phases of healing are not elucidated. The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of topical sildenafil on wounds in rats. Sildenafil (25 mg) was topically applied once daily on wound in treatment groups. On...
متن کاملEfficacy of Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Activated By Thromboplastin-D on the Repair and Regeneration of Wounds in Dogs
Objective- To evaluate the effects of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on wound healing in dogs. Design- Experimental in-vivo study. Animals- 5 mix-breed male adult dogs. Procedures- Under general anesthesia, six 2 × 2-cm, full-thickness skin wounds were created on the back of dogs symmetrically. In each dog, three right side wounds were treated topically with 1.5 ml PRP jelly, whereas lef...
متن کاملSignalling by Transforming Growth Factor Beta Isoforms in Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration
Transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) signalling is essential for wound healing, including both non-specific scar formation and tissue-specific regeneration. Specific TGFβ isoforms and downstream mediators of canonical and non-canonical signalling play different roles in each of these processes. Here we review the role of TGFβ signalling during tissue repair, with a particular focus on the pro...
متن کاملExtrinsic and Intrinsic Regulation of Axon Regeneration by MicroRNAs after Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord injury is a devastating disease which disrupts the connections between the brain and spinal cord, often resulting in the loss of sensory and motor function below the lesion site. Most injured neurons fail to regenerate in the central nervous system after injury. Multiple intrinsic and extrinsic factors contribute to the general failure of axonal regeneration after injury. MicroRNAs ...
متن کاملPhysiological and Pathological Roles for MicroRNAs: Implications for Immunity Complications
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding regulatory RNAs molecules with a size of approximately 22 nucleotides that are implicated in regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional regulatory levels. Inflammatory disorders especially autoimmune diseases (ADs) occur from an abnormal immune response of body against cells of their own specific tissues or multiple organ systems leading to ch...
